Club Members:
1) Will properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs
under their care and arrange for appropriate veterinary
attention if and when required.
2) Will agree without reservation that any veterinary' surgeon
performing an operation on any of their dogs which alters
the natural conformation of the animal, may report such
operation to the Kennel Club.
3) Will agree that no healthy puppy will be culled. Puppies
which may not conform to the Breed Standard should be
placed in suitable homes.
4) Will abide by all aspects of the Animal Welfare Act.
5) Will not create demand for, nor supply, puppies that have
been docked illegally.
6) Will agree not to breed from a dog or bitch which could be
in any way harmful to the dog or to the breed.
7) Will not allow any of their dogs to roam at large or to
cause a nuisance to neighbours or those carrying out
official duties.
8) Will ensure that their dogs wear properly tagged collars
and will be kept leashed or under effective control when
away from home.
9) Will clean up after their dogs in public places or
anywhere their dogs are being exhibited.
10) Will only sell dogs where there is a reasonable
expectation of a happy and healthy life and will help with
the re-homing of a dog if the initial circumstances change.
11) Will supply written details of all dietary requirements and
give guidance concerning responsible ownership when
placing dogs in a new home.
12 )Will ensure that all relevant Kennel Club documents are
provided to the new owner when selling or transferring
a dog, and will agree, in writing, to forward any relevant
documents at the earliest opportunity, if not immediately
available.
13) Will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers,
retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be
given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind.
Will not sell by sale or auction Kennel Club registration
certificates as stand alone items (not accompanying a
dog).
14) Will not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the
breed nor falsely advertise dogs nor mislead any person
regarding the health or quality of a dog.
15) When breeding dogs, adopt as a minimum standard the
principles, requirements and recommendations as
embodied in the Kennel Club's Assured Breeder Scheme.
Specifically, Club Members undertake to:
1. Conduct
a) At all times co-operate and participate with the Midland
Shar Pei Club, and share aid and information with all
those who have a genuine interest in the Shar Pei breed.
b) At all times maintain the highest possible standard of
care, health and welfare of all Shar Pei in my charge.
c) At all times encourage and exhibit sportsmanlike
conduct in all competitions and shall not display any
derogatory manner or speech with regard to any other
exhibitor or their dogs.
3. Sales of Puppies & Adults
a) Only sell puppies or adults which belong to me by virtue of
KC registration or which I have acquired under a stud
service written agreement dated at the time of mating.
b) Not sell any puppy or adult on behalf of a third party where
part of monies received are kept by me, as this shall
constitute me as being a dealer and so being I shall be
likely to be expelled from the Club under Rule 11. If I
arrange the sale of any puppy or adult on behalf of an
owner and receive no monies this shall be regarded only
as assistance, except that if, in the opinion of the Council,
I am aiding and abetting the owner to sell a puppy or adult
to someone who is to sell the dog for profit, I shall be
found to be aiding and abetting the practice of dealing and
shall be likely to be expelled from the Club under Rule 11.
c) Not sell any Shar Pei or allow any dog in my charge to be
used for experiment or fighting purposes neither shall I
allow any Shar Pei to become a raffle or competition prize
or allow any stud service to be available as a raffle or
competition prize.
d) Correctly record in a written and binding contract any
arrangement for a dog sold on breeding terms, and
breeding terms shall not be used as a means of placing
stock with persons unable to afford the price of a dog.
e) Sell all puppies and adults with a proper written receipt
to include any agreement and conditions, and signed by
both parties. If the Kennel Club registration certificate is
to be given at the time of sale, duly signed on transfer,
or, if this is not available, a written promise to supply one
will be given by the seller. A correct pedigree, a suitable
diet sheet, details of present worming status and health
details are also to be given.
f) Thoroughly check the credentials of any purchaser of
any Shar Pei I own.
a) Only breed or attempt to breed from dogs and bitches
which I consider to be good representatives of the
Shar Pei breed. I understand that it is of the utmost
importance that breeding will only be undertaken for the
betterment of the Shar Pei breed, to produce typically
sound and healthy stock.
b) Not breed with any dog or bitch which has a proven
hereditary defect at the time of mating.
c) Only breed with bitches, which are physically sound,
in good health and of an acceptable temperament, and
only use or allow to be used stud dogs which are
physically sound, in good health and of acceptable
temperament.
d) Not to breed with bitches before 15 months of age, and
not to breed any litter which the Kennel Club may refuse
to register because of the age of the dam or because of
the numbers of litters produced from the dam.
e) Not make or condone the mating of a Shar Pei to any
other breed of dog or crossbreed.
f) Not provide a service of my stud dog knowing or
suspecting that this Code of Conduct would be breached,
and to check credentials with regard to this Code of Conduct
of any bitch brought for stud dog services.
g) Offer stud services at a reasonable charge and terms,
which will be confirmed in writing with the stud dog owner
and the owner of the bitch.
h) Where a puppy is taken by the stud dog owner in lieu of the
stud fee, this agreement between the stud owner and the
owner of the bitch to be in writing at the time of mating.

4. Purchase of Dogs
Take steps to determine that the person or persons from whom I am buying have conformed to all conditions in this Code of Ethics.
Breach of these provisions may result in expulsion from Club Membership, and/or disciplinary action by the Kennel Club and/or reporting to the relevant authorities for legal action, as appropriate. Any Members aiding and abetting any other Member to breach the Code of Ethics will be held equally responsible with the offender. Members undertake to inform the Club Committee of any breach of the Code of Ethics which come to their notice. Any such notification brought by any Member regarding another Member shall be taken up by the Club Committee and dealt with by them under Rule 11 except that Rule 16 shall also apply.
